Very Superstitious

So last Wednesday (Halloween) I defied a superstition that my Uncle Ted believes in more than anything...

Never set a hat on a bed.

Whoops!

So here are the results:

Wednesday: Won the costume competition at work with my Pinata costume

Later that night, I decided to defy another superstition and ran through a cemetery on Halloween... what was I thinking???

All was well and good until Saturday - and I have learned my lesson. Never ever ever break a superstition during Alabama Football Season.

After hours of panic and depression, we beat LSU in the final drive!!! YAY - but I never want to feel again like my stubbornness to break a superstition will cause us to lose our dreams of winning a national championship.

Love Actually - Intertextuality

Love Actually (2003) - Genre: Film

Four Horizontal Intertextual Connections:

Bridget Jones Diary (2001) - Genre: Film
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0243155/
Crazy thing: after I was doing research when this film came to mind, it turns out that the same people that wrote and directed Love Actually worked together on Bridget Jones Diary too. Hugh Grant is an actor in both movies but there are many character parallels between the two movies.

He's Just Not That Into You (2009) - Genre: Film
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1001508/
Like Love Actually, He's Just Not That Into You has a plethora of A-List celebrities as characters that all inter-relate in some way in the plot-line.

The Holiday (2006) - Genre: Film
This connection seems pretty obvious to me: Christmas time, British people, love story, heart break, gorgeous celebrities playing the roles...

Harry Potter (series) - Genre: Film

But why Harry Potter?????? Because these guys...

Are actually

   and

Mind. Blown.

FOUR VERTICAL INTERTEXTUAL CONNECTIONS:

1. the UK - Genre: Geography

The film is set in the UK and embraces the "holiday culture" of that part of the world. And don't forget those accents.

2.  The Royals- Genre: Public Figures

Doesn't the Prime Minister and Natalie ....

look a whole lot like...

3. Lobster Costumes: Genre - Wardobe

The Nativity Lobster ends up looking a whole lot like...

this little fella.

4. Nativity - Genre: Religious Celebrations
